The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Gabam, has stated that there is no “use and dump” policy in the party, describing it as united and formidable.

Gabam made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja as the party welcomed several former governorship candidates from the People’s Redemption Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The momentum for coalition-building among opposition parties and leaders has grown significantly following former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s shift from the All Progressives Congress to the SDP on March 10.

Recently, numerous politicians have joined the SDP, including former PRP gubernatorial candidates from the 2023 elections.

These defectors include Emiyare Etete (Rivers), Elder Chris Agu (Enugu State), Anthony Umeh (Anambra), Abdulkareem Mustapha (Kwara), and Capt. Ahmed Kaugama (Jigawa).

Also joining the SDP is Adam Idris, the PRP House of Representatives candidate for the Kaduna North Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

Gabam warmly welcomed the new members, assuring them of full acceptance into the party and emphasising the SDP’s need for like-minded individuals to help rescue the country.

He also highlighted that the party continues to attract new members from various parties across Nigeria.

Gabam said, “If your interest is to build an institution, please join us as an individual. The moment you join SDP, you have equal rights like all of us here. You can vie for any position of your choice without restriction.”
