The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi has called on the federal government to address the problem of poverty in order to stem the tide of criminality in the country.

Peter obi who stated this on Thursday when he paid Governor Bala Mohammed a visit in Bauchi, also urged the government to invest in critical areas of agriculture, health and education in order to bring development to the country.

Obi said that he was in Bauch state to discuss with Governor Bala Mohammed regarding the state of affairs in the country, particularly the North as well as hold consultations with him being the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

“Nigeria can be rich today from agriculture than we make from oil and I could see vast cultivated land everywhere I have visited around the world.I just came back from a visit to Indonesia, a country with the highest number of Muslims in the world and I observed that all the lands were cultivated, so why don’t we here in Nigeria do the same thing”

We need to invest in these critical areas to pull people out of poverty, so that we can reduce criminality.We need to invest in these areas so that our children will not continue going into drugs.We need to care about their education and health, but we are not discussing all these in the political space now, rather what we are discussing are mundane things such as budget padding, sexual harassment”

‘We need to discuss hunger, poverty, education and health, what should concerns our leaders should be the priority of the political class, we are not in NolloyWood where they do entertainment for business. Unfortunately those in Politics have now taken to entertainment and engage in things that does not profit the people. It is time to preoccupy our time with the discussion of the people and that is what I came to talk about and it is an ongoing discussion and collaboration” he said

Responding, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdukadir Mohammed said that he is ready to work with Peter Obi to bring good governance to the country in order to restore the lost glory of the nation from mediocres that are parading themselves as leaders of the nation.

Governor Mohammed said that their coming together is a message because time has come that they must step out to do things with focus and sincerity, adding all the thier colleagues are behind their unity because it is a transidental one.

“We are coming together to work together, irrespective of party, region and religion as politicians, because we believe in one thing, that is service to the people.The government in power relish, they have been undertakers in different parties.

“We will use knowledge, tact and strategy to transcend all these, to go beyond their estimation in such a manner that we will come out with a framework that give latitude to actualize our collective aspirations of providing good governance to Nigerians irrespective of the bad interferences, permutations or plans of those people who think they can scuttle democracy through all the means that is in their hands through the power cowasion or even interference in the judiciary, we willl transcend all that and that is the plan” he said
